Reverend Franklin Graham has voiced his disapproval of the group Evangelicals for Harris for using footage of his father, the late Reverend Billy Graham, in a political ad backing Vice President Kamala Harris.
As the president of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association and Samaritan’s Purse, Graham expressed his concerns on X, formerly Twitter, criticizing the group for what he perceives as an attempt to mislead the public. This ad is part of a larger effort, with other organizations like Christians for Kamala and Republicans for Harris also rallying support for Harris’ presidential campaign.
On Wednesday, Graham shared a still from the Evangelicals for Harris ad aired on MSNBC’s Morning Joe, emphasizing that his father valued the conservative principles upheld by former President Donald Trump. “Liberals are using everything to promote candidate Harris, even my father’s image,” Graham stated, asserting that his father’s perspective would have remained unchanged today.
The ad features Reverend Graham discussing repentance and faith, contrasting it with a well-known moment where Trump hesitated to admit asking God for forgiveness. The closing text of the ad provokes thought, asking, “Is there any greater denial of Christ… than to say ‘I don’t need his forgiveness?'”
On its website, Evangelicals for Harris shares Kamala Harris’s “faith story,” illustrating how her upbringing and beliefs have shaped her leadership. Recently, another group, Christians for Kamala, hosted a virtual rally that reached 40,000 participants, while Evangelicals for Harris held a Zoom call, the attendance of which is currently unknown. Similarly, Republicans for Harris reported an online gathering that attracted 73,000 attendees.
