This past Friday, Vice President Kamala Harris secured a significant endorsement in Pennsylvania, a vital swing state for her upcoming election battle against former President Donald Trump.
As the race heats up, The Philadelphia Inquirer published an opinion piece titled “Kamala Harris for President, Endorsement,” providing its backing for the Democratic nominee. This endorsement arrives just ahead of the pivotal Election Day.
The editorial board cited Trump’s ongoing legal troubles, his connections to the January 6 Capitol riot, and issues like reproductive rights and climate change as key reasons for their support of Harris. They stated, “Voters face an easy but tectonic choice… Vice President Kamala Harris wants to help all Americans. Donald Trump wants to help himself.”
If elected, Harris would make history as the first Black South Asian woman to serve as president. Notably, she emphasizes her vision and ideas over her historic candidacy.
Pennsylvania, offering 19 crucial Electoral College votes, has traditionally been a bellwether state, often backing the eventual presidential winner. This endorsement is particularly timely for Harris, as many experts agree that winning the “blue wall” states—Pennsylvania, Michigan, and Wisconsin—will be essential for her path to victory.
Current polls indicate a closely contested race. The Emerson College Polling/RCPA found Trump with 49% support in Pennsylvania, just ahead of Harris with 48%, leaving 3% undecided. FiveThirtyEight’s tracker also shows Trump slightly leading Harris by 0.3 points.
Notably, both candidates have invested considerable time campaigning in Pennsylvania, as the margin in this key state is expected to be razor-thin, similar to previous elections. Both have their sights set on securing this battleground to bolster their electoral chances.
