Kari Lake encountered more legal trouble in the courtroom recently. The Arizona Court of Appeals rejected her latest appeal regarding the 2022 gubernatorial race she lost.
Lake, a retired TV anchor, contested her defeat to Katie Hobbs, who won by a mere 17,000 votes. Lake claimed there were irregularities in the election, such as issues with ballot signatures and tabulator malfunctions.
Despite her efforts to challenge the results, the Arizona Court of Appeals dismissed Lake’s sixth appeal, deeming her arguments insufficient to overturn the 17,000 vote margin.
In December 2022, the trial court dismissed most of Lake’s claims, citing various reasons such as failure to present a claim within the right context. The Court of Appeals upheld this decision, affirming Hobbs’ election as governor.
The appellate court verified that Maricopa county workers indeed followed proper procedures for verifying signature matches, addressing Lake’s concerns about signature validity.
Despite Lake’s attempts to introduce new evidence and challenge previous rulings, the court found no significant basis to alter the outcome. Even a petition to the U.S. Supreme Court in April was rejected without explanation.
Lake announced her candidacy for Senate in October, aiming to replace Kyrsten Sinema. The Senate race could be pivotal in determining party control in 2025.
