Kyiv Reports Russia’s Heavy Losses: 1,160 Soldiers, 64 Artillery Units, and 14 Tanks in Just One Day

According to the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, the Russian military experienced significant losses recently, with 1,160 troops, 64 artillery systems, and 14 tanks reportedly taken out in just 24 hours. These figures were shared early Monday on the Ukrainian Ministry of Defense’s official X page. As usual, Russia has not disclosed its military casualties, leading to skepticism surrounding statistics from both sides.

If these numbers hold true, Russia’s total losses since the 2022 invasion would stand at 661,630 military personnel, 19,156 artillery systems, and 8,933 tanks, according to Ukrainian records.

The ministry’s post also featured a quote from poet Robert Frost, emphasizing choices and consequences.

Ukrainian sources reported record Russian artillery losses in July and August, tallying losses of 1,520 and 1,517 artillery systems, respectively. September saw another 1,219 destroyed. Personnel losses peaked during these months as well, with figures reaching 35,680 in July, 36,810 in August, and 38,130 in September. Notably, almost 10,000 casualties reportedly occurred in just one week in September.

May 2023 marked Russia’s highest tank losses for the year, totaling 428. This follows a deadly October with 521 tank losses, and subsequent months recorded 359 in June, 300 in July, 193 in August, and 291 in September.

In recent developments, reports indicate that Ukrainian forces targeted two key Russian airfields in Crimea overnight. Ukrainian troops also claimed a successful strike on a $100 million Russian Nebo-M radar station using ATACMS ballistic missiles, which is noted for its complex capabilities and “stealth mode” operations. Its destruction is said to significantly impair the Russian military’s ability to detect and track various aerial threats.
