Kyle Rittenhouse, known for his involvement in the 2020 shooting incident in Kenosha, Wisconsin, celebrated the recent Supreme Court decision lifting the ban on bump stocks that was initiated during the Trump administration.
Following the ruling that categorized bump stocks differently from machine guns, the 21-year-old posted a message expressing his jubilation and desire to acquire a bump stock.
The ban on bump stocks was introduced by the Trump administration in 2018 after they were found in rifles used by the Las Vegas mass shooter in 2017, who killed 60 people and fired over 1,000 rounds.
Despite the Supreme Court’s ruling, bump stocks are permitted, but they cannot be used for automatic multiple firing.
While dissenting Justices Kagan and Sotomayor warned of dangerous consequences, Rittenhouse, who had been acquitted in 2021, has been championing gun rights through his nonprofit organization in Texas, The Rittenhouse Foundation.
Rittenhouse urged his followers to purchase bump stocks, believing it would thwart the ATF’s attempts at further restrictions on gun accessories.
President Biden, in opposition to the ruling, has called on Congress to reinstate a bump-stock ban in collaboration with families affected by mass shootings.
