Exciting times are ahead for one of the busiest airports in the world – Dallas Fort Worth International Airport (DFW). A massive $3 billion renovation is officially kicking off to completely overhaul Terminal C, which is currently the airport’s most outdated facility.
The upgrade will feature a host of enhancements, including new glass windows, the removal of over 400 obstructive columns, and a raised roof to create a more spacious atmosphere. Travelers can also look forward to more shops, restaurants, lounge areas, check-in zones, and security checkpoints.
But that’s not all! Terminal A will also see improvements, with an additional 140,000 square feet and five new gates. Meanwhile, Terminal C will grow by 115,000 square feet and gain four extra gates.
Dallas Mayor Eric Johnson commented, “This monumental expansion will bolster one of Dallas’ greatest assets, enhancing connections globally.” Fort Worth Mayor Mattie Parker also expressed enthusiasm, highlighting that these upgrades will elevate the travel experience as the DFW Metroplex continues to grow and thrive.
The entire renovation is part of a larger initiative, “DFW Forward,” a nearly $9 billion project that represents the largest capital investment since the airport opened in the 1970s. This comprehensive plan encompasses over 180 projects.
As of 2023, DFW Airport ranked second in the U.S. for passenger boardings, with around 39 million travelers, just behind Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, which topped the list with over 50 million.
The transformation of Terminal C is expected to be completed by 2030, marking a new chapter for DFW Airport and enhancing its status as a leading aviation hub.
