Pies Pulled from Shelves in Washington and Oregon Due to Allergy Concerns

Grand Central Bakery has announced a recall for several frozen pie products and pie dough due to an undeclared egg allergen, according to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

The recall, initiated on Friday and updated on Saturday on the FDA’s site, affects items including the U-Bake Pie Crust, U-Bake Apple Pie, U-Bake Marionberry Pie, and U-Bake Chicken Potpie.

These products were available for purchase between August 1, 2024, and October 20, 2024, with expiration dates ranging from February 1, 2025, to April 20, 2025.

Packaging is clear and bears Grand Central Bakery branding but lacks any mention of egg content. The expiration dates can be found on the outside of the packaging.

Individuals with an egg allergy may face serious risks if they consume these items. The bakery advises customers who purchased the affected products to either discard them or request a refund.

For refunds or further information, customers can contact the bakery at 503-232-0575 during business hours or visit their website at grandcentralbakery.com.

Eggs are classified as one of the nine major allergens by the FDA, along with wheat, milk, tree nuts, peanuts, soy, shellfish, fish, and sesame.

Allergic reactions to eggs can manifest differently, ranging from hives and vomiting to severe respiratory issues, which may lead to anaphylaxis in extreme cases. According to FDA regulations, any product containing allergens must explicitly state so on its packaging.
