Police Search for Shooter Following DNC Office Attack

Police in Tempe, Arizona, are actively searching for a suspect linked to recent gunfire at a local Democratic National Committee (DNC) office. This incident took place in the early hours of October 6, prompting the Tempe Police Department to collaborate with Silent Witness, a crime-solving organization.

In a recent press release, the police indicated that Silent Witness is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for any tips leading to the identification of the shooter.

This shooting marks the third time this campaign cycle that the DNC office has been targeted, following incidents on September 16 and September 23. A police spokesperson confirmed, “On October 6 around 12:30 a.m., the DNC campaign office reported gunfire. Thankfully, no one was inside during the incident.”

The investigation has provided a description of a potential suspect vehicle: a silver Toyota Highlander, possibly from the years 2008-2013, which may have a sunroof, roof rack, and five-spoke rims, though the license plate remains unidentified.

According to Silent Witness, damages were caused by both “BB gun and firearm rounds.” They have noted that all three incidents occurred between midnight and 1 a.m. and are seeking public assistance in cracking the case.

Photos from the most recent shooting reveal a bullet hole in the office window. “We appreciate the rapid response from Tempe Police and feel fortunate that no injuries occurred,” the Arizona Democratic Party stated.

Gun safety remains a pressing issue in Arizona. According to Everytown for Gun Safety, Arizona ranks 42nd in the nation for gun safety measures. The state does not require firearm registration and permits the concealed carrying of weapons.

The conversation around gun violence has been significant in Arizona, especially following the tragic shooting of former Congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in 2011. Giffords survived that attack and went on to receive the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2022 for her advocacy against gun violence. Her husband, Mark Kelly, currently serves as one of Arizona’s senators.
