Over the weekend, a massive crowd of pro-Palestinian supporters encircled the White House wielding a giant “red line” banner.
The demonstrators used interconnected fabric pieces to create a two-mile long red banner, symbolizing their message. They aimed to draw attention to their stance against President Joe Biden‘s support for Israel during the Gaza conflict.
In May, Biden had stated that the US would halt arms shipments to Israel if they breached certain boundaries. Despite Biden’s comments, White House officials clarified that Israel stayed within the limits set during Trump’s presidency, considering the operation a success.
The red banner displayed the names of Palestinians who lost their lives due to conflicts with Israeli forces.
Alejandro Alvarez, a journalist and photographer, shared a time-lapse video capturing the banner’s installation around the White House on X (formerly Twitter).
Watch the completion of the ‘people’s RED line’. It’s my best video from this entire project. The mile-long chain has encircled the White House, leaving just a few gaps for pedestrians. pic.twitter.com/IJIIOQgPB1

Alvarez described the completion of the ‘people’s red line’ as a significant moment and criticized Biden’s stance on military aid to Israel amidst the ongoing conflict in Rafah.
During the spike in tensions in October 2023, Israel launched both aerial and ground assaults in response to Hamas attacks, leading to numerous casualties and hostages. A temporary ceasefire in November facilitated the release of some hostages and prisoners.
Following an attack in October that saw protests in D.C., reports indicated casualties in Gaza due to Israeli retaliatory actions. The situation escalated when Hamas claimed Israel had killed some hostages, pushing for their return.
There was a strong call for upholding international laws for civilian protection and efforts to free captives while dismantling terrorist groups. The IDF highlighted their commitment to minimizing civilian casualties.
