In a surprising twist, former Congressman Adam Kinzinger has suggested that late Republican icon Ronald Reagan might have favored Vice President Kamala Harris over former President Donald Trump in the upcoming 2024 election.
Kinzinger, a prominent critic of Trump and a member of the House January 6 committee, publicly endorsed Harris during the recent Democratic National Convention while still identifying as a Republican.
Just hours ahead of the first presidential debate between Trump and Harris, Kinzinger took to X (formerly Twitter) to share his thoughts, saying, “Reagan would be on Harris 2024 all damn day” in a post.
Speculating on Reagan’s views today is, of course, speculative, but Kinzinger has made his disdain for Trump quite clear since the January 6 Capitol attack. On the four-year anniversary of the riot, he remarked that Trump’s bid for re-election is driven by “a small, frightened man” facing the consequences of his actions.
His critiques haven’t been limited to political matters; Kinzinger has also humorously remarked on Trump’s unpleasant personal odor, comparing it to a bizarre concoction of “armpits, ketchup, a butt and makeup.”
Kinzinger isn’t alone in his support for Harris; former GOP Congresswoman Liz Cheney, also a member of the January 6 committee, recently joined him in endorsing her. Other former Republican figures, including Stephanie Grisham, Anthony Scaramucci, and Olivia Troye, have also stepped forward in Harris’s favor.
However, it’s notable that most Republican supporters of Harris are no longer in office, with Mesa, Arizona Mayor John Giles being one of the few exceptions still actively backing her.
