When a knife-wielding intruder threatened his family, a rescue dog named Pancho sprang into action and became an instant hero.
Pancho, adopted from Española Humane in New Mexico eight years ago, bravely confronted the intruder who had broken into their Rio Arriba County home earlier this month.
Despite being stabbed in the neck, Pancho selflessly protected his family by positioning himself between them and the attacker.
Despite sustaining severe injuries, including a missed trachea, esophagus, and a slipped disc in his back, Pancho managed to subdue the intruder until neighbors intervened and restrained the assailant until authorities arrived.
His family acted swiftly, applying first aid to his wounds and rushing him to Albuquerque for emergency medical treatment, ultimately returning to Española Humane for further care.
After a close call during surgery, Pancho made a remarkable recovery, promising a future filled with rib-eye steaks.
Within days, the brave dog was back on his feet, much to the delight of his family and the humane society, who hailed him as a true hero.
