Imagine a Manhattan architect accused of the Gilgo Beach murders sparking investigations in unsolved cases nationwide. Meet Rex Heuermann, charged with the deaths of Jessica Taylor and Sandra Costilla, raising the body count to six.
But wait, the mystery may not end on Long Island. Heuermann’s tendrils extend to Las Vegas, Atlantic City, as well as Virginia and South Carolina, cities with their own share of cold cases involving sex workers.
During a news conference, District Attorney Raymond Tierney emphasized the commitment to investigating each case, showing respect to the victims, “[…] It’s impossible to stop. That’s what we owe to victims. It’s the minimum we can offer.”
South Carolina
Heuermann’s connection to South Carolina came to light when the Chester County Sheriff’s Office assisted in gathering evidence related to the case. His car, a Chevy Avalanche, was seized from his property in Chester. Heuermann resides in Chester, living with his brother.
Not far from his residence, 18-year-old Aaliyah Bell went missing, emphasizing potential links to Heuermann.
Las Vegas
Las Vegas also enters the picture with Heuermann’s property dealings and proximity to cases bearing eerie resemblances to the Gilgo Beach Murders. Jodi Brewer, a 19-year-old sex worker, vanished, only to be found deceased near the border, drawing parallels to the case.
Atlantic City
Heuermann’s detainment prompted a reevaluation of a 2006 cold-case murder in Atlantic City. The discovery of four deceased sex workers mirrored the tragic events at Gilgo Beach, pointing to a chilling pattern.
Virginia
Delving into Heuermann’s connections in Virginia potentially sheds light on related cases, such as the disappearance of Alicia Showalter Reynolds. Her unresolved case mirrors a series of disappearances and deaths in the region.
Rex Heuermann – Who Is He?
A local high school graduate turned architect, Heuermann founded RH Consultants in 1994, primarily focusing on architectural projects in NYC. Following his arrest in 2023, related to findings along Ocean Parkway, Heuermann’s life took a darker turn.
Currently housed at Riverhead Correctional Facility, Heuermann has been isolated for his safety. Reports hint at a mundane life behind bars, reading, watching TV, and maintaining seclusion from other inmates for security reasons.
