A recent video shows members of the Russian National Liberation Movement marching and chanting for Russian warheads or missiles to be aimed at American cities.
The group, captured in a video uploaded by Julia Davis of Russia Media Monitor, was seen marching in the rain and expressing their desire to target U.S. cities with various missiles.
One protest leader boldly shouted, “Yars Sarmat Poseidon! We aim at Washington!” The RS-24 Yars can be fitted with multiple nuclear warheads, the RS-28 Sarmat is an intercontinental ballistic rocket, and Poseidon are torpedoes.
The NOD, a pro-Kremlin group founded by Yevgeny Fiodorov, was prominently present, with members displaying a black-and-orange striped flag. Notably, the St. George ribbon, previously used to commemorate World War II veterans, has been banned in Russia since the early 1990s.
During the protest, a car was spotted with an orange rocket on its roof, a prop also seen in a previous protest outside the U.S. Ambassador’s residence.
These outcries come amidst Russia’s ongoing threats of employing nuclear weapons targeting the U.S., NATO countries, and Ukraine in the context of the Russia-Ukraine War.
Notably, Russian President Vladimir Putin recently warned about the escalating tensions, emphasizing the precariousness of the current situation. This warning coincided with the signing of a 10-year security agreement between the U.S. and Ukraine, intended to bolster Ukraine’s defenses.
Emily Isaacs, an expert on international relations, believes that Putin’s threats are primarily a show of strength and may not materialize given the catastrophic consequences of nuclear warfare. She emphasizes the immense global devastation that would follow any nuclear conflict.
According to a recent report by the Federation of American Scientists, Russia is estimated to possess 5,580 warheads compared to the U.S.’s 5,044. While other countries also have nuclear capabilities, their arsenals pale in comparison to the two superpowers.
