The Food and Drug Administration of the United States (FDA) is cautioning consumers in seven states about pre-packaged sandwiches that may be contaminated with a dangerous bacteria.
The recall was voluntarily announced by Classic Delight LLC in St. Marys, Ohio, after potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes, a deadly bacteria that poses severe health risks, especially to vulnerable populations.
This company has recalled 25 products that were distributed to vending machines, convenience stores, and food distributors in Texas, California, and Arkansas between June 6, 2020, and May 11, 2023.
The complete list of 25 recalled items with their associated product codes includes various sandwiches and breakfast items like turkey subs, chicken sliders, and bacon egg muffins.
Classic Delight mentioned that the recall was prompted by the detection of Listeria Monocytogenes in environmental samples, leading to an immediate halt in production. While no illnesses have been reported yet, consumers are advised to return the products for a refund or dispose of them as a precaution.
If you have any concerns about potential illness, it’s recommended to consult your healthcare provider. For further inquiries, customers can reach out to the Classic Delight Consumer Hotline at 419-300-3202 or email [email protected].
Listeriosis caused by Listeria monocytogenes can result in severe symptoms, with around 260 out of an estimated 1,600 cases per year being fatal, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
The CDC highlights that Listeriosis symptoms can manifest differently, ranging from mild gastrointestinal issues like diarrhea to more severe forms causing confusion, nausea, and even seizures.
In pregnant women, listeriosis can lead to serious complications such as miscarriage or life-threatening infections in newborns. Therefore, it’s crucial to be aware of the symptoms and seek medical attention promptly if needed.
