In a tragic incident, Callie Brunett, a 35-year-old mother from Loranger, Louisiana, and her 3-year-old daughter, Erin, were victims of a heinous crime. The Tangipahoa Parish Sheriff’s Office (TPSO) revealed that Brunett’s other daughter, 6-year-old Jalie, was also abducted but survived the ordeal.
The devastating events unfolded in Tangipahoa Parish, Louisiana, where Brunett was found murdered on June 13. Shortly after, Erin and Jalie were abducted. Erin’s lifeless body was discovered over 100 miles away in Jackson, Mississippi. The suspect, who had an on-and-off relationship with the mother, was apprehended there.
The suspect’s admission of guilt was significantly backed up by the forensic interview of the 6-year-old survivor. Despite the horrific nature of the crimes, the suspect did not deny his involvement. The investigation continues to unfold.
Efforts to locate the missing children were swift but faced challenges due to a delay in issuing an Amber Alert. Thankfully, the alert eventually led to the discovery of the children, the suspect, and sadly, the deceased child. Prompt action in such cases is critical to aid law enforcement in their search.
Authorities apprehended a second suspect, Victoria Cox, in connection to the case. The investigation raised concerns about possible human trafficking at the location where the children were found, including the presence of small animal cages.
Both suspects are now facing charges of capital murder and sexual assault. In a brief interview as he was escorted to jail, Callihan expressed remorse for his actions, stating, “I have no reason for what I did.” He mentioned that he was sober during the crimes and accepted the consequences, admitting that lethal injection would be the easiest punishment for him.
