24 Hour Fitness, a popular gym chain in the US, might be in for some trouble as news of its policies on displaying the American flag have caused an uproar.
Reports surfaced on social media about an internal memo from 24 Hour Fitness that touched on issues such as transgender locker room use and guidelines on displaying certain flags, including LGBTQ+ Pride and the American flag.
The memo mentioned approved social movements and expressions, permitting the display of flags like Black Lives Matter and Gay Pride symbols at all times, while limiting the American flag to specific holidays like Memorial Day and Flag Day.
Many people were incensed by this limitation, expressing their disapproval on various platforms. Some even called for a boycott of the gym.
Conservative commentator Charlie Kirk tweeted, “Boycott anti-America 24-Hour Fitness until it’s chapter 11. There are many better options. Stop them.” Other users echoed similar sentiments, criticizing the gym’s stance on the American flag.
Recent months have seen a trend of conservatives boycotting companies for various reasons. For example, Bud Light faced backlash for its association with transgender influencer Dylan Mulvaney. Similarly, Planet Fitness drew criticism for an incident involving a transgender individual in a women’s changing room.
While controversies like these continue to spark heated debates and calls for boycotts, it remains to be seen how companies will address the concerns of their customers in an increasingly polarized societal landscape.
