Tim Walz Faces Decline in Support from Gen-Z Voters

Recent polling reveals that Tim Walz is struggling to win over Gen Z voters, with more seeing him unfavorably than favorably. According to a Big Village Caravan survey, 34.6% of respondents aged 18 to 26 expressed an unfavorable view of the Governor, compared to 31.2% who held a favorable opinion.

Conducted from August 9 to August 11, this unsponsored poll gathered responses from 1,009 adults, including 848 registered voters, and boasts a margin of error of +/- 3 percentage points.

Interestingly, while Walz faces challenges among younger voters, Kamala Harris has captured their attention in a different light. A recent social media campaign that embraced the term “brat” after pop star Charli XCX celebrated Harris has generated significant engagement, with 50.5% of Gen Z respondents viewing the Vice President favorably, versus 39.4% unfavorable.

For context, Donald Trump holds a relatively competitive position with Gen Z; 47% have a favorable opinion of him, while 44.3% view him unfavorably. Meanwhile, his running mate, JD Vance, received an unfavorable rating from 37% of younger respondents.

Overall, multiple surveys indicate Harris has a favorable edge over Trump within this demographic, with many Gen Z voters preparing to make their mark in this year’s election. However, a recent SurveyUSA poll from early September showed Trump leading Harris among 18 to 34-year-olds, 50% to 46%. This was corroborated by a Quinnipiac University poll conducted in July, which found Trump ahead by a striking 19-point margin among the same age group.

Despite these fluctuations, Harris has shown resilience, closing the gap with Trump in various polls over time.
