Rich Homie Quan, the Atlanta-based rapper known for his collaborations with Young Thug, passed away on Thursday at the age of 34. His death has been confirmed by the Fulton County Medical Examiner, although the cause remains unclear at this time.
An autopsy is scheduled for Friday, as reported by the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.
Rapper Boosie Badazz shared his condolences on X, suggesting that Quan may have died from an overdose. He wrote, “JUST TALKED TO YOU BRA. Never gonna forget your smile, the way you talked, and, of course, your music.”
Rich Homie Quan’s last Instagram post, made just days before his passing, featured him wearing glasses with the caption, “Vision clear even through the BS,” hinting at a troubling mindset.
Quan and Young Thug first gained popularity through their mixtape Rich Gang: Tha Tour Part 1, but their relationship soured over time, resulting in public disputes and lyrical jabs at one another. Their fall-out often revolved around perceived betrayals and differing career trajectories.
His name has also surfaced multiple times during Young Thug’s ongoing YSL RICO trial. Witness Kenneth “Lil Woody” Copeland questioned Young Thug about alleged tensions with Quan, leading to a moment of laughter in the courtroom when a prosecutor referenced their past issues.
Born on October 4, 1989, Rich Homie Quan was introduced to music at a young age, making waves in the early 2010s with his Southern rap style and catchy hooks.
Initially a baseball player with dreams of going pro, Quan shifted his focus to music after facing setbacks in sports. He became serious about rapping around 2011 and quickly gained traction in Atlanta’s hip-hop scene.
His 2013 mixtape Still Goin In marked his breakthrough, featuring the hit track Type of Way. This success paved the way for more projects, including I Promise I Will Never Stop Going In and the well-famed Family & Mula in 2014, which included the popular track Flex (Ooh, Ooh, Ooh).
Though his talent secured his place in the industry, Rich Homie Quan also dealt with various legal troubles over the years, including arrests related to drug possession.
