The Trump family is treating 275 linemen from Florida Power and Light (FPL) to complimentary stays at the Trump National Doral Miami resort as they gear up for Hurricane Milton.
While Miami might escape the worst of the storm, which is predicted to hit further north, residents in mobile homes are advised to evacuate.
Eric Trump shared on X (formerly Twitter) how proud he is to host these linemen, stating, “Honored to have 275 incredible linemen from FPL at @TrumpDoral as they get ready to respond to the aftermath of Hurricane #Milton! You are amazing, and the Trump Family, along with the entire state of Florida, appreciates you! Enjoy the rooms – they are the best in Florida! Be safe!”
FPL is one of the biggest electric utility companies in the US, serving millions across Florida. They’re vital during storm recovery efforts due to their extensive community involvement.
Kamrel Eppinger, an FPL spokesperson, assured residents that the company is fully prepared for any challenges Hurricane Milton might present. “Safety is our top priority at FPL, and we urge our customers to prioritize safety as well,” Eppinger said, adding that the storm could bring severe flooding and strong winds, leading to potential power outages.
For those planning to use generators, Eppinger emphasized the importance of following safety guidelines, keeping generators outside, and away from any windows.
With Hurricane Milton expected to make landfall on Florida’s west coast in under 14 hours, winds may reach over 100 mph, and storm surges could reach 15 feet, alongside heavy rainfall of up to 18 inches. The storm’s nighttime arrival raises additional risks.
President Joe Biden has also addressed the looming storm, noting that his administration is actively preparing for its impact. He has approved an emergency declaration for Florida and has dispatched search and rescue teams, along with essential supplies like food and generators.
“I want to thank everyone who has followed local guidance to evacuate,” Biden said. “I urge everyone in Hurricane Milton’s path to adhere to all safety measures in the next 24 hours; it’s a matter of life and death.”
