Former President Donald Trump, the Republican nominee for the upcoming election, recently shared his thoughts on the death of Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar, just a day after Vice President Kamala Harris commented on the news. Sinwar’s passing was confirmed by Israeli officials on Thursday, with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stating that they had “settled the account” with an individual tied to a significant tragedy during the Holocaust era.
Harris quickly commented on Sinwar’s demise during a campaign stop at a Wisconsin college, declaring that this event signifies “Hamas is decimated and its leadership is eliminated.” She emphasized that “justice has been served,” noting Sinwar’s connection to the loss of many innocent lives, including Americans.
She also expressed hope that this situation could pave the way for a resolution in Gaza, ensuring Israel’s security while addressing the needs and rights of the Palestinian people.
On a visit to Detroit the following day, Trump remarked that Sinwar’s death “makes it easier” to pursue peace in the Israel-Hamas conflict. He also criticized President Biden for allegedly pressuring Netanyahu to slow down military actions in Gaza, suggesting Biden should take a harsher stance instead.
According to reports, U.S. intelligence and special operations have been backing Israel during this war. After news of Sinwar’s death, Biden congratulated Netanyahu, discussing strategies for rescuing hostages and concluding the conflict. While abroad at meetings with European leaders, Biden expressed satisfaction with Israel’s actions and urged for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The Israel-Hamas conflict escalated after a surprise attack from Hamas on October 7, resulting in significant casualties on both sides, including approximately 1,200 Israelis and casualties exceeding 42,000 Palestinians, as reported by the Gaza Health Ministry.
