Texas Representative Ronny Jackson, the former White House doctor for Trump, described the recent assassination attempt on the Republican presidential nominee as a significant moment in American history.
Reflecting on the event, Jackson stated, “I can proudly say that I served a president who literally risked his life for our country.”
Jackson initially joined the White House Medical Unit during George W. Bush’s administration in the mid-2000s, and later served under Barack Obama and Trump. In 2018, Trump nominated Jackson for the position of U.S. Secretary of Veterans Affairs, but Jackson withdrew following allegations of misconduct and mismanagement.
After retiring from the Navy as a rear admiral in 2019, an investigation conducted by the Defense Department inspector general in 2021 revealed that Jackson had engaged in inappropriate behaviors during his time as an admiral. Consequently, he was retroactively demoted to the rank of captain.
In 2021, Jackson was elected to the House of Representatives, and in 2022, he published a political memoir titled “Holding the Line,” highlighting his experiences working with Trump.
Following the recent attempt on Trump’s life, Jackson expressed immense pride in the former president’s resilience and leadership. He referred to Trump’s determination to continue fighting for the country even after being shot as a historic moment in American history.
Trump personally thanked Jackson, attributing his survival to a slight head tilt that he made while facing a chart, which caused the bullet to graze his ear instead of hitting him directly.
Additionally, Jackson revealed that his nephew sustained injuries during the incident, though not severe. His family was seated near Trump when the shots were fired, causing his nephew to sustain a minor cut on his neck.
Jackson, who also attended to Trump’s injured ear post the attack, emphasized the rigorous nature of the presidency and its demands, stating that the role is a constant and unyielding responsibility without breaks.
Expressing concerns about the current president, Joe Biden, Jackson remarked on the challenges faced by Biden in ensuring the safety and security of the nation, arguing that every moment with Biden as the president poses risks to the country.
