A candy retailer in New York has announced a recall of one of its chocolate products following an FDA classification. The Marabou Sea Salt Chocolate Bar, made by BonBon NYC LLC, has been designated a “Class 1” recall, indicating a serious risk of adverse health effects.
The FDA defines a Class 1 recall as a situation where there’s a reasonable chance that the product could lead to severe health consequences or even death. In this case, the chocolate bars, which come in yellow packaging and weigh 185 grams, may contain undeclared allergens like almonds, wheat, and nuts. The word ‘havvsalt,’ Swedish for “sea salt,” is also noted on the packaging.
The affected bars were available in BonBon stores located at 130 Allen St., 1220 Lexington Ave., and 705 Driggs Ave. in New York City, all of which are produced in Sweden. According to BonBon A Swedish CandyCo, they pride themselves on maintaining high quality standards, likening their processes to that of “real-life Oompa Loompas.”
Following the recall, BonBon has taken action by removing these chocolate bars from their shelves and properly disposing of them at all locations. The FDA has been active in recalling food products lately, including the recent recall of 7-Eleven Fudge Brownies due to undeclared walnuts, although no illnesses have been reported from that recall as of yet.
Additional FDA recalls this month include Dark Chocolate Filled Mini Waffle Cones, linked to allergic reactions due to undeclared milk, and various cantaloupes and eggs due to Salmonella risks. Consumers should stay informed about these recalls to ensure their safety.
