A recent photo of former President Donald Trump and Georgia Governor Brian Kemp is stirring up some intrigue online. The duo met in Evans, Georgia, to discuss relief efforts related to Hurricane Helene. This meeting marked their first public appearance together since Trump criticized Kemp for certifying Biden’s 2020 election win, which Trump still claims was “stolen.”
In a drastic flip, Trump, who had labeled Kemp as “disloyal” at a Georgia rally just weeks ago, recently thanked him for his “help and support” on Truth Social, amid a tight race in Georgia for the 2024 elections.
Despite this apparent reconciliation, the vibes during their meeting seemed a bit chilly. CNN’s Kaitlan Collins shared a snap of their handshake on X (formerly Twitter), which had received over 240,000 views. The image captures the two leaders in what many described as an awkward encounter, both sporting neutral expressions.
Commentary flew on social media, with comments like “Kemp: How far away can I be from him and still be at the same table?” and others suggesting that their relationship is strained.
In their meeting, Trump insisted their relationship was “great,” praising their past collaboration. Meanwhile, Kemp acknowledged Trump’s focus on those affected by the hurricane.
However, their stances diverge on the matter of Hurricane Helene relief. Trump claimed the Biden administration was unresponsive, while Kemp contradicted this, stating Biden had already promised assistance just a day prior. Furthermore, other Republican figures, including Trump, have made unverified assertions about the Biden administration’s disaster response, including an erroneous claim about FEMA finances.
Adding more drama, Georgia Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, a fervent Trump supporter, insinuated that Democrats could control the weather following the hurricane.
