The San Francisco 49ers secured a thrilling 30-24 victory against the Dallas Cowboys on Sunday night, bringing their season record to 4-4 as they head into a much-anticipated bye week.
Post-game, standout players quarterback Brock Purdy, tight end George Kittle, and running back Isaac Guerendo sat down for an interview with NBC. Just as they began, defensive end Nick Bosa made a surprise entrance, showcasing a hat that said “Make America Great Again.”
Bosa addressed the media following the game, though he kept his comments brief regarding the political statement. “I’m not gonna talk too much about it,” he mentioned, adding, “but I think it’s an important time.”
Bosa’s political views have evolved since 2019, when he openly expressed support for Trump prior to being drafted. However, he chose to scale back his comments at that time, removing some tweets to avoid any distractions before potentially joining the 49ers. “I had to,” Bosa admitted to ESPN. “There is a chance I might end up in San Francisco.”
And he did, being picked second overall. Since then, Bosa has established himself as a premier defensive player, earning four Pro Bowl selections and winning both the Defensive Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year awards in 2019 and 2022, respectively. On Sunday, he notched a sack, bringing his season total to 4.5.
Even though Bosa has dialed down his political expressions recently, his message was clear given the upcoming Election Day on November 5, a week away. The 49ers will be off next week and won’t play again until after the upcoming elections.
On the field, the 49ers rebounded from an early deficit; after trailing 10-3 and entering halftime down 10-6, they dominated the third quarter to lead 27-10 heading into the final period. Although the Cowboys mounted a late comeback, they couldn’t overcome the 49ers’ lead, resulting in a joyful send-off for San Francisco as they head into their bye week.
Purdy had a solid outing, completing 69.2% of his passes for 260 yards and a touchdown, while also rushing for another touchdown. Kittle led the receiving corps with six receptions for 128 yards and a touchdown.
