San Francisco 49ers running back Christian McCaffrey won’t be back on the field for Week 6, but fans are hopeful he’ll make his return by November 10. This injury saga continues to unfold.
Latest Update: A Raiders star defender is out for the rest of the game due to a foot injury.
McCaffrey is set to be eligible for activation from injured reserve next week, but the 49ers are taking a cautious approach and anticipate he won’t be back until at least November.
On a brighter note, the rehab process is underway, even if it’s progressing slowly. McCaffrey engaged in his first on-field activity this week without any setbacks, which is encouraging news.
Fantasy football players had their hopes dashed when just before the 49ers’ Week 1 game against the New York Jets, it was announced that McCaffrey would be sidelined due to a calf strain and Achilles issue.
The loss of McCaffrey has hit the 49ers hard, and things took a turn for the worse when he was placed on injured reserve in Week 2.
On September 30, it was confirmed that he is dealing with Achilles tendonitis in both legs. To date, McCaffrey has not played a game this season.
Injuries have plagued the 49ers, with multiple starters sidelined. In one matchup, Brandon Aiyuk was the sole starting offensive player remaining, as George Kittle, Deebo Samuel, and McCaffrey all watched from the sidelines.
Last season, McCaffrey led the NFL with 2,023 yards and tied for the most touchdowns at 21, earning the AP Offensive Player of the Year award.
Trent Williams, the 49ers offensive tackle, provided an encouraging update on McCaffrey’s condition. “He mentioned he’s been improving just a day or two ago,” Williams shared on the Rich Eisen Show. “His treatment and rehab are going well. I believe he’s confident about returning soon, but I can’t say exactly when.”
For now, the 49ers are patiently waiting for their star athlete to get back into the lineup.
