During week 3 of the preseason, the Chicago Bears faced a concerning moment when defensive back Douglas Coleman III was injured following a tackle just after halftime.

As soon as Coleman went down, the training staff rushed to his side, and paramedics were called in. Fortunately, he was moving his limbs and even gave a thumbs up while being placed on a backboard for hospital transport.
The next day, Coleman was walking around and feeling good at the hospital, and he has now officially been discharged.
According to Chris Emma, “Bears safety Douglas Coleman was released from a Kansas City hospital and is heading back to Chicago today,” stated head coach Matt Eberflus. Coleman had been hospitalized following the Bears’ game against the Chiefs.
Injuries in the NFL can be alarming, but luckily, it seems Coleman didn’t suffer any serious harm.
After joining the Bears in January, Coleman arrived from the CFL, where he previously played for the Ottawa Redblacks. Originally signed by the Denver Broncos in 2020, Coleman had a rollercoaster journey before making his way back to the NFL.
While with the Redblacks, he spent some time on the practice roster and even transitioned to a linebacker in 2022, despite primarily playing safety. Last season, he recorded 18 tackles and one sack over five games.
As he competes for a spot on the Bears’ defense, Coleman is currently positioned fourth on the depth chart behind Jaquan Brisker, Elijah Hicks, and Tarvarius Moore.

While Coleman is on the mend and feeling better, his chances of making the 53-man roster might be slim with training camp nearing its end. However, he may still have an opportunity to join the practice squad, provided he fully recovers.
