Brian Daboll Discusses Daniel Jones’ Up-and-Down Preseason Play

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones took the field for his preseason debut on Saturday against the Houston Texans. Coming back from an ACL injury last season, the game proved to be a rollercoaster for Jones.

His start was rocky, highlighted by two early interceptions, including a shocking pass thrown deep from his own end zone that resulted in a pick-six.

By the end of the game, Jones completed 11 of 18 passes for 138 yards and two interceptions. While the performance wasn’t what the Giants had hoped for, he managed to regain some composure after those initial mistakes.

Postgame, Giants head coach Brian Daboll acknowledged the uneven performance but emphasized that it’s just the preseason. He’s looking for improvement as the weeks progress.

“These games are for evaluation,” Daboll stated, according to the team transcript. “We wanted to ensure we take shots downfield. There were some positives, and we’ll learn from the negatives.”

In any preseason matchup, staying healthy is paramount, and Jones came out unscathed. He reflected on his physical condition, saying, “I feel good physically. It was great to be back out there. I appreciate everyone who supported my recovery.”

After a strong 2022 season leading the team to the playoffs, Jones faced challenges last year, posting 909 yards with just two touchdowns and six interceptions in six games.

The 2024 season is crucial for Jones, as the Giants will assess his future with the organization.
