As the NFL season kicks off next week, the Cleveland Browns made a notable trade, sending defensive tackle Chris Williams and a 2025 seventh-round draft pick to the Chicago Bears in exchange for a 2025 sixth-round pick.
This news was shared on social media by NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
Williams entered the NFL in 2020, initially joining the practice squad of the Indianapolis Colts after a standout college career at Wagner. In his senior year, he secured Second-Team All-NEC honors and racked up impressive stats, including 62 tackles, 11.5 tackles for loss, and four sacks.
Though Williams has only seen action in 13 regular-season games throughout his career, he has made his mark in the preseason with two tackles and two sacks, as well as a forced fumble. On the flip side, he has only managed six total tackles in actual games without a sack to his name, highlighting the challenge of breaking into a full-time role. Rather than cut him loose, the Browns opted to trade him for potential future value.
Now with the Bears, Williams faces the opportunity to showcase his abilities. The team recently bolstered its roster by acquiring linebacker Darrell Taylor from the Seattle Seahawks, which adds depth as they eye a competitive season ahead.

The Bears are riding a wave of excitement, especially since they now have rookie quarterback Caleb Williams, the No. 1 overall pick, who aims to become a franchise cornerstone for the team. With a challenging division ahead, the Bears are eager to maximize this momentum and the added seventh-round pick from the Browns only enhances their prospects for next year’s draft.
