Caleb Williams of the Bears Shares Bold Prediction for His Rookie Year

The Chicago Bears’ new star quarterback, Caleb Williams, isn’t shy about his ambitions.

In a special episode of ESPN’s “First Take,” Williams, the Heisman Trophy winner, confidently addressed whether he could replicate the impressive debut season of 2023’s No. 2 overall pick, C.J. Stroud, with the Houston Texans. The 22-year-old was seen as a top prospect, comparable to Andrew Luck in 2012, making his assurance understandable.

When host Stephen A. Smith directly asked if he could achieve similar success, Williams replied without missing a beat, asserting, “No. It was exciting to see Stroud succeed as a rookie. That’s never happened before, but we’ve got the guys to do it.”

The 6-foot-1, 215-pound rookie honed his skills at USC and Oklahoma, and he’s ready to showcase his talents. Stroud’s record-breaking rookie season saw him earn the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year title with the Texans, boasting impressive stats: 4,108 passing yards, 23 touchdowns, and just five interceptions, leading to a playoff appearance.

In contrast, Williams had a remarkable college career, tossing 42 touchdowns during his Heisman-winning year in 2022. In 2023, despite a less stellar season, he still racked up 30 scores. As he transitions to the NFL, he has a strong supporting cast, including fellow standout receivers like No. 9 draft pick Rome Odunze, DJ Moore, and six-time Pro Bowler Keenan Allen.
