The Kansas City Chiefs had an explosive start to their season in Week 1, dominating the Baltimore Ravens. And they might just become even more formidable in their next game.
Latest Update: Lamar Jackson, the Ravens’ QB, missed practice on Monday.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid shared some exciting news regarding Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, the wide receiver they acquired in the offseason. Brown missed the opening game due to a sternoclavicular dislocation suffered during the preseason, but he could be back in action soon.
“He’s getting close,” Reid told reporters, adding, “I know he’s feeling better. We have to see how things progress this week. They’ve been monitoring his condition with periodic tests, and so far, everything seems promising.”
While Reid stopped short of confirming Brown’s Week 2 return, he hinted that it’s a strong possibility. “We’ll see how he fares in his tests, but we’re optimistic,” Reid said.
Even without Brown in Week 1, the Chiefs’ offense was impressive. Second-year wide receiver Rashee Rice emerged as a top target for quarterback Patrick Mahomes, catching seven passes for 103 yards. Rookie Xavier Worthy also made his mark with two touchdowns and 68 total yards from a combination of rushing and receiving.
Despite these solid performances, Brown is still anticipated to be one of Mahomes’ key weapons. The former Ravens first-round pick has racked up 313 receptions for 3,644 yards and 28 touchdowns throughout his five-year career, with his standout season being in 2021 when he amassed 91 catches for over 1,000 yards.
If Brown is cleared to play this weekend, it will significantly enhance the Chiefs’ already potent offense as they prepare to face the Cincinnati Bengals—a game that could have major playoff ramifications. The Bengals, who unexpectedly fell to the New England Patriots in Week 1, are eager for a turnaround and will face a tougher challenge if Brown makes his return.
