The Tampa Bay Buccaneers faced a tough blow during Monday Night Football when wide receiver Chris Godwin had to be carted off the field with his left leg in an air cast. The team fears that Godwin may have dislocated his ankle, which could mean he’s out for an extended period.
In Other News: Mike Evans Also Leaves Game With Leg Injury
The incident occurred just before the end of the Week 7 game against the Baltimore Ravens when Godwin was brought down by linebacker Roquan Smith. What seemed like a routine tackle quickly turned serious as Godwin was unable to get up.
The ESPN broadcast chose not to show the replay, hinting at the severity of the injury. While nothing is confirmed yet, the speculation points towards a serious ankle issue for Godwin.
Unfortunately, Godwin wasn’t alone in facing injury struggles that night; Mike Evans also left the game with a hamstring issue. The absence of both players was felt, and with time running out, the Buccaneers couldn’t make a comeback.
Ultimately, the Bucs fell to the Ravens 41-31, despite starting strong with a 10-point lead. Baltimore then scored 34 points in a row, effectively securing their victory.
Nonetheless, Tampa Bay didn’t go down easily. Running backs Rachaad White and Bucky Irving managed to rack up three touchdowns, inching closer to Baltimore, but it wasn’t quite enough.
The Buccaneers now have a record of 4-3, sitting just slightly above .500. Quarterback Baker Mayfield had a solid game, completing 31 of 45 passes for 370 yards, including three touchdowns and two interceptions, ending up with a 97.5 rating.
On the other side, Lamar Jackson shone with 333 passing yards and five touchdowns, matching his incompletions.
With both Godwin and Evans out, Tampa Bay faces a significant setback, especially as they now lead the Atlanta Falcons by just one game in the NFC South. The team will need to regroup and adapt their offense without two key players, with no specific timeline established for Godwin’s return.
The hope remains that he can return at some point this season instead of being sidelined indefinitely.
