The Dallas Cowboys have placed wide receiver Brandin Cooks on injured reserve due to a knee issue, as reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN.
More News: Dolphins WR Odell Beckham Jr.’s status for Week 5 against the Patriots has been revealed.
Cooks is set to miss at least the next four games after developing an infection in his right knee following a procedure last week in New York. Although there was initial hope that he would sit out just one game in Pittsburgh, the situation has unfortunately worsened.
This is a significant blow to the Cowboys’ offense, but Cooks could return in time for the Nov. 10 matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. His absence opens the opportunity for other wide receivers to step up and make their mark.
Quarterback Dak Prescott commented on the situation, saying, “It’s an opportunity to show the depth of this team, and what we’re made of. Young guys will need to step up now, just as I did when my time came. Everyone needs to show they belong and seize their chance.”
In Cooks’ absence, the Cowboys are likely to start Jalen Tolbert alongside CeeDee Lamb. Other receivers like Jalen Brooks, KaVontae Turpin, and rookie Ryan Flournoy may also see increased playing time following their inactive status in the first few games. The practice squad features additional options like Jalen Cropper and Kelvin Harmon.
This season, Cooks has struggled to make a significant impact, with just nine receptions for 91 yards and one touchdown, which came in the opening game against the Cleveland Browns. This pattern resembles his performance last season, where he found more form as the year went on, ultimately finishing with 54 catches for 657 yards and eight touchdowns.
When Cooks recovers from his knee injury, the Cowboys are hopeful he can regain his production levels and contribute to their success as the season progresses.
