Cowboys Set to Bring Pro Bowl Free Agent Running Back for Visit

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Dallas Cowboys are set to host running back Dalvin Cook for a visit on Monday night.

Currently a free agent, Cook had a less-than-stellar season with the New York Jets and the Baltimore Ravens in 2023. He joined the Jets on a one-year deal, where he primarily played backup to Breece Hall, ending the season with a disappointing 214 rushing yards on 67 carries—his lowest stats yet.

After parting ways with the Jets in January, Cook briefly signed with the Ravens, contributing in their playoff game against the Texans with eight carries for 23 yards.

From 2019 to 2022, Cook was a force on the field, rushing for over 1,000 yards for four straight seasons as a Minnesota Viking, including a standout 2021 season where he rushed for 1,557 yards and 16 touchdowns. But after facing shoulder issues in 2022, he was released by the Vikings for refusing a pay cut.

The Cowboys’ backfield is currently in a state of flux post-Tony Pollard, who moved to the Tennessee Titans after surpassing 1,000 yards for two consecutive seasons with Dallas. While Ezekiel Elliott rejoined the team in April, he’s not the same player who once led the league in rushing yards.

Dallas is also looking at Rico Dowdle and Royce Freeman, but neither has proven themselves as a reliable starter. Known for their strong run game in recent years, the Cowboys are now seeking a game-changer at running back.

Despite coming off a tough season, Cook is still less than two years removed from his last 1,000-yard performance and could be a valuable addition to bolster the Cowboys’ running game.
