The success of the Cleveland Browns this season hinges on the performance of starting quarterback Deshaun Watson. After dealing with a shoulder injury that limited him to just 12 games last year, Watson’s health is critical for the Browns.

Despite Watson’s inconsistent performances, the Browns still managed to finish the past season with 11 wins and clinched a playoff berth, although they were eliminated in the wild card by the Houston Texans. As they gear up for the 2024 season, the Browns are eager to build on that foundation.
Watson is crucial for the team’s offense, and his health is a top priority. ESPN insider Adam Schefter recently shared an update regarding Watson’s recovery. He mentioned, “He had shoulder surgery in November, and expectations are that he’ll be ready to start on opening day. The organization needs Watson to be the player they envisioned when they made the big investment in him.”
During the games he played last season, Watson showed glimpses of potential, finishing with 1,115 passing yards, seven touchdowns, and five interceptions. However, the Browns have yet to see Watson at his best since acquiring him. Schefter also pointed out that last year’s shoulder injury clouded assessments of Watson’s effectiveness.
“Due to his injury, we never got to see the full scope of what he could deliver last season,” Schefter noted.
Competing in the AFC North will be challenging, as each team is packed with talent capable of playoff runs. However, the Browns’ strong defense and explosive offensive capabilities could prove formidable when they’re firing on all cylinders.
If Watson stays healthy and performs well, Cleveland could give its rivals in the AFC a tough time. This year is pivotal for the veteran quarterback, as another lackluster season might lead the franchise to explore other options.
