It’s been a rough ride for the Miami Dolphins lately. After losing quarterback Tua Tagovailoa to a concussion in Week 2, their defense took another hit with the loss of standout linebacker Jaelan Phillips.

Phillips recently revealed that he suffered a knee injury needing reconstructive surgery, marking his second consecutive season-ending injury following a torn Achilles in 2023.
This is a tough blow for Miami’s defense. Before his injury, Phillips notched up 6.5 sacks in 2023 and was a key player in 2024, contributing a sack, a tackle for loss, and two quarterback hits even in limited appearances.
The Dolphins were cautious with Phillips at the start of the season after his recovery from an Achilles injury. However, with his current setback, they’ve had to make some moves.
To fill that gap, the Dolphins have signed linebacker Tyus Bowser from the Seattle Seahawks’ practice squad.
According to Miami Herald’s Omar Kelly, Bowser is being added directly to the active roster, slated to start in Week 5.
Interestingly, Bowser just faced the Dolphins during the Seahawks’ 24-3 win in Week 2. Now, he’s looking to continue his streak of quarterback pressures with Miami. Before joining Seattle, Bowser was a key player for the Ravens’ defense.
Originally drafted 47th overall by the Ravens in 2017, Bowser had a solid rookie season, recording three sacks and one interception. He only improved from there, peaking in 2021 with seven sacks and eight tackles for loss.
The Dolphins are hopeful Bowser can recapture that form, especially since he spent the entire 2023 season recovering from a knee injury. He was eventually placed on the reserve/non-football injury list.

After being released by the Ravens in March 2024, Bowser signed with the Seahawks in August.
While the Dolphins await the return of Bradley Chubb, Bowser’s addition could be a game changer if he can bounce back to his prior self from 2021.
