In a big change for Week 4, the Miami Dolphins are set to unveil a new starting quarterback as they face off against the Tennessee Titans on Monday Night Football. This primetime matchup offers the Dolphins a chance to show off their latest addition.
Tyler “Snoop” Huntley is taking over the role after recently joining the team. As the Dolphins await more information on starter Tua Tagovailoa’s injury, Huntley has been named the starter.
According to reports from the Dolphins’ media room, Huntley has emerged as the leading choice for the starting job. However, the final decision hinges on the coaches’ assessment of his grasp on the offense over the next few days.
Last week, Skylar Thompson started against the Seattle Seahawks but suffered an injury mid-game. Backup Tim Boyle then stepped in but was also shaken up, paving the way for Huntley’s debut.
Head coach Mike McDaniel’s decision reflects his confidence in Huntley to secure a win and improve the team’s record to 2-2 this season. With prior starting experience in the NFL, Huntley is expected to provide a much-needed boost for the Dolphins.
Previously a backup with the Baltimore Ravens, Huntley played a crucial role during Lamar Jackson’s injury absence. Over four seasons, he participated in 20 games, starting nine and earning a Pro Bowl nod in 2022. During that season, he threw for 658 yards, contributing two touchdowns and three interceptions, while also showcasing his rushing ability with 137 yards and a touchdown.
Huntley’s dual-threat capabilities will be key for the Dolphins, who possess one of the league’s top wide receiver corps. This will put pressure on opposing defenses, whether he opts to pass or run.
Though it may take some time for him to fully adjust to Miami’s system, both Huntley and McDaniel view this opportunity as a chance for the quarterback to solidify his position, whether as a backup or temporary starter until Tagovailoa returns.
