The NFL has slapped Miami Dolphins pass-rusher Jaelan Phillips with a $16,883 fine following a low hit on Tennessee Titans quarterback Will Levis during their 31-12 defeat on Monday Night Football, as reported by Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
This penalty comes on the heels of Phillips announcing that he’ll be sidelined for the entire 2024 season due to a knee injury requiring reconstructive surgery. Not only is he facing a lengthy rehab, but he also has to deal with this hefty fine.
In his heartfelt statement, Phillips shared, “During the game, I suffered a season-ending knee injury that will require reconstructive surgery. I believe our lives are shaped by how we handle tough times. It’s normal to question our purpose in times of pain. I know mine is to inspire and persist, no matter how many times life knocks you down. I’m a testament to resilience and faith, and my God is bigger than any challenge.”
This isn’t the first injury Phillips has faced; he suffered a season-ending Achilles tear in Week 12 last year against the New York Jets. This season, he logged six total tackles and one sack, bringing his career totals to 152 tackles and 23.5 sacks over four years.
Levis also took a hit during the game, suffering an AC joint sprain while diving for a first down, leading him to exit early. Backup Mason Rudolph stepped in, completing nine of 17 passes for 85 yards. Notably, Levis currently leads the NFL in interceptions with six, throwing for 604 yards and four touchdowns in just four weeks.
The Titans have a bye in Week 5 but are optimistic about Levis’s recovery ahead of their matchup against the Indianapolis Colts in Week 6.
