The 2024 NFL season is just around the corner, and fans are buzzing with excitement about who will emerge as contenders this year.
While many teams will vie for the championship, the quarterback position often makes or breaks a team’s Super Bowl dreams. Although there are numerous talented signal-callers in the league, only a select few are considered “elite.”
Former six-time Pro Bowler Donovan McNabb shared his top five quarterbacks for the upcoming season with LA Sports Report, giving fans some food for thought.
Among the surprises was McNabb’s omission of Eagles star Jalen Hurts, while he included Lions QB Jared Goff. His top five consists of Chiefs’ Patrick Mahomes, Ravens’ Lamar Jackson, Cowboys’ Dak Prescott, Bengals’ Joe Burrow, and Goff.
McNabb explained his rationale for including Goff, stating that he believes the Lions are on the verge of a breakout season. He noted, “I just think those are the quarterbacks that I will be watching this season, and they will be talked about later on.”
Eagles fans might be taken aback by Hurts’ absence, especially after a playoff appearance last season. However, with the Eagles losing five of their last six games, McNabb’s perspective may hold some weight.
While McNabb’s picks shake things up, it’s hard to ignore elite talents like Mahomes, Burrow, and Jackson. Goff and Prescott are interesting choices; Goff has seen playoff success and had a stellar 2023 season with over 4,575 yards and 30 touchdowns, helping the Lions reach the NFC Championship Game.
Meanwhile, Prescott had a remarkable season last year, setting personal bests in completions (410) and touchdowns (36) while throwing for 4,516 yards and just nine interceptions. Though often criticized for his postseason performances, his regular-season track record is commendable.
In his career, McNabb boasted a 98-62-1 record, with 37,276 yards and 234 touchdowns, solidifying his legacy as a six-time Pro Bowler and a Hall of Famer for the Eagles.
