Washington’s release came right after the Falcons signed safety Justin Simmons to a one-year deal. The Falcons now look to bolster their secondary with Simmons joining Jessie Bates, Richie Grant, DeMarcco Hellams, and Micah Abernathy.
Washington joined the Falcons late in July but failed to record any catches in the preseason. Last season, he had stints with the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints, but his last regular season appearance was with the Dallas Cowboys in 2022 after testing free agency for the first time.
Over five seasons, Washington accumulated 114 receptions, 1,629 yards, and 11 touchdowns, averaging 14.3 yards per catch. He spent the first four years of his career with the Pittsburgh Steelers, playing a total of 60 games.
Washington was drafted 60th overall by the Steelers in the 2018 NFL Draft after a solid college career at Oklahoma State. He played out his first contract, including a signing bonus of over $1.3 million, and has a base salary history of approximately $1.1 million for the 2021 season.
Interestingly, the Steelers will face Washington’s former team, the Falcons, in Week 1 of the 2024 season. During his time in Pittsburgh, he worked closely with Ike Hilliard, who now serves as Atlanta’s wide receivers coach.
Washington offers potential for any NFL team looking for a strong, physical receiver. He’s known for his ability to fight off safeties, excel in crossing routes, and provide vertical speed.
In high school, Washington was a four-star recruit and was ranked among the top wide receivers nationally. He stands 6 feet tall and weighs 205 pounds.
