Tim Patrick, the former wide receiver for the Denver Broncos, has secured a new opportunity with the Detroit Lions.
As reported by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Patrick is set to join the Lions’ practice squad, with aspirations of moving up to the active roster. Schefter made the announcement on social media.
Recently, the Broncos attempted to find a trade for Patrick as the roster cut deadline approached. When a deal didn’t materialize by Tuesday, they decided to release him, allowing the veteran to immediately sign with another team.
Despite the release, Broncos head coach Sean Payton praised Patrick’s resilience and respect within the team. “He’s a veteran with grit who has overcome a lot,” Payton commented.

At 30, Patrick hasn’t played an NFL game since 2021 due to injuries, including a torn ACL that sidelined him for the entire 2022 season and a torn Achilles tendon in 2023.
As a pivotal addition to the Lions, Patrick hopes for a healthy season ahead. He began his NFL journey in 2017 with the Baltimore Ravens and San Francisco 49ers but found a long-term spot on the Broncos’ practice squad shortly after being waived. Over four seasons with the Broncos, Patrick notched 143 catches for 2,009 yards and 12 touchdowns.
His last two seasons were particularly impressive, with 104 receptions, 1,476 yards, and 11 touchdowns in 31 games. If he can replicate this success with the Lions, they might just have one of the league’s most dynamic offenses.
A product of the University of Utah, Patrick had a standout college career, leading the team in receiving in his senior year with 61 receptions for 888 yards and five touchdowns.
