Haason Reddick Joins the Jets: How Will His New Contract Boost the Defense?

The New York Jets are making bold moves to turn their season around and push for a playoff spot.

In a surprising shake-up, they parted ways with head coach Robert Saleh after just five games, promoting defensive coordinator Jeff Ulbrich to interim head coach.

To bolster their offense, they traded for star wide receiver Davante Adams, a six-time Pro Bowler and former teammate of Aaron Rodgers.

But that’s not all; the Jets have fortified their defense as well.

As reported by Adam Schefter of ESPN, the Jets have officially signed edge rusher Haason Reddick, who had been holding out for the right deal.

“Deal is now done, officially: Pro-Bowl edge rusher Haason Reddick signed his adjusted one-year deal this morning with the New York Jets, per Drew Rosenhaus and Ryan Matha,” Schefter tweeted. “Reddick will make his Jets debut Sunday in New England.”

Reddick has missed training camp and the first seven games of the season but now seems ready to face the Patriots. Already boasting one of the best defenses in the league, ranked second in passing yards allowed (164.7) and sixth overall (292.4), Reddick’s arrival is expected to enhance these numbers further.

A standout at Temple University, Reddick was named first-team All-AAC in his senior year, recording 65 tackles and 10.5 sacks. He was drafted 13th overall by the Arizona Cardinals in 2017, where he accumulated impressive stats including 255 tackles and 20 sacks over several seasons.

After a successful stint with the Carolina Panthers, Reddick had a breakout year with the Philadelphia Eagles, recording 16 sacks and leading the league with five forced fumbles, earning a Pro Bowl nod.

In 2023, Reddick again made the Pro Bowl with 38 tackles and 11 sacks. Now, he’s eager to bring his defensive prowess to the Jets as they approach the second half of the season.
