Minnesota Vikings cornerback Mekhi Blackmon, a standout rookie from USC, may be sidelined for his second NFL season after tearing his ACL on the opening day of training camp, sources have told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero.
Blackmon, drafted 102nd in the 2023 NFL Draft, had an impressive debut season with 41 tackles, one fumble recovery, one interception, and eight pass deflections in 15 games. Despite his efforts, the Vikings finished 7-10, missing the playoffs after a promising 13-4 season in 2022.
The Vikings faced challenges during the season, with several notable injuries, including their starting quarterback Kirk Cousins rupturing his Achilles tendon in Week 8. The team saw some success with Pro Bowl selections like Danielle Hunter and Andrew DePaolo, but ultimately fell short of postseason play.
This summer was marred by setbacks for the Vikings, with star wide receiver Jordan Addison’s DUI arrest and the tragic passing of rookie cornerback Khyree Jackson in a car accident. Blackmon, a California native, has had a journey through various collegiate teams before his time with the Trojans, where he excelled in the Pac-12.
Despite the recent injury setback, Blackmon’s promising career and journey through college football demonstrate his resilience and talent, and fans will be eager to see his return to the field in future seasons.
