Sean McVay, head coach of the Los Angeles Rams, is already being considered one of the NFL’s all-time greats. His skill in leading with respect and poise has made him a standout coach over the years.

While it may seem that McVay would never delegate his head coaching responsibilities, he continues to prove why he is highly regarded in the coaching community.
According to Rams reporter Jourdan Rodrigue, McVay has decided to let assistant head coach Aubrey Pleasant take the reins for the team during the upcoming preseason game against the Las Vegas Raiders.
This Saturday, instead of monitoring from the sidelines, McVay will be in the broadcast booth, giving Pleasant the chance to gain valuable firsthand experience in the head coach role.
As confirmed by Rodrigue, McVay’s intention is to allow Pleasant to get essential game-day experience while he observes from above. Rumors have circulated that McVay may retire after this season to pursue a broadcasting career, and this move could be a step towards that transition.
For Pleasant, this opportunity isn’t just about filling in; it’s a significant moment for his career as he aims to establish himself further in the NFL. Many coaches begin their journey toward a head coaching role from similar positions, and Pleasant is certainly on that path.
Pleasant’s coaching experience dates back to 2010 when he started as the defensive backs coach at Grand Blanc High School. He later moved to college football at Michigan before making his NFL debut as an intern with the Cleveland Browns in 2013.

Having climbed the coaching ladder, Pleasant was the cornerbacks coach for the Rams from 2017 to 2020 and has since worked with the Detroit Lions and Green Bay Packers. Now back with the Rams as the assistant head coach and defensive backs coach, he’s positioning himself for potential advancements, perhaps even a coordinator role down the line. For now, he gets to lead the Rams team this Saturday.
