The Rams have officially released veteran running back Boston Scott.
NFL insider Jordan Schultz was among the first to break the news via social media.
In the preseason finale against the Houston Texans, Scott had a decent performance, racking up 32 yards on 11 carries. Although he dealt with a leg contusion after last week’s win over the Chargers, it wasn’t severe enough to keep him off the field.
The Rams currently have four running backs on their roster: Kyren Williams leads the pack, followed by rookie Blake Corum, Ronnie Rivers, and Zach Evans. It’s anticipated they will keep three, leaving Evans and Rivers vying for the final spot.
Scott’s preseason tally shows 155 rushing yards on 37 carries across three games. Although he shined in the finale, so did Evans, whose playing time was limited last season.
Scott, 29, signed a one-year deal with the Rams back in May after being a sixth-round pick by the New Orleans Saints. His contract with the Saints was worth $1.71 million, but he got waived before the regular season. He managed to clear waivers and was signed to the Saints’ practice squad before eventually moving to the Philadelphia Eagles’ active roster in 2020. After a successful stint, he returned to the Eagles on an exclusive rights deal and later inked another one-year contract for 2022, where he played 15 games and garnered 217 rushing yards and three touchdowns.
In 2023, Scott re-signed with the Eagles but had a limited role, finishing with 20 carries for 86 yards without any touchdowns.
Back in college at Louisiana Tech, Scott made a name for himself, especially in his senior year, posting 1,040 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on 182 attempts. In total, he concluded his college career with 1,833 rushing yards and 15 touchdowns.
As the 2024 season approaches, it’ll be interesting to see which team gives Scott another chance.
