Remaining NFL Free Agent Welcoming Challenge of Unknown Opportunities

Denver Broncos raised eyebrows by letting go of seasoned safety Justin Simmons this offseason. Simmons, who gained fame quickly after being drafted in 2016, earned two Pro Bowl selections in an impressive eight-year career. The decision to release him was puzzling, especially after his recent Pro Bowl appearance.

Even after missing the playoffs again, the Broncos opted to move on from the 30-year-old safety. Many expected Simmons to be swiftly picked up given his on-field potential. However, with just a few weeks left before training camp, he remains unsigned.

Being arguably the top free agent available, Simmons is embracing the uncertainty of his future. Speaking with Bradey King of Denver7 News, he expressed readiness for the challenges as training camp looms.

“It’d be great to know where I’m heading, what to study, who I’ll be playing for, and facing what matchups. But this uncertainty is pushing me positively,” Simmons shared with Denver7 News. “Routine breeds complacency; now, I’m forced to seek advice, learn, and grow. I’m immersing myself in this new experience, seeking wisdom from those ahead of me, which I believe will lead to significant personal growth.”

While Simmons seeks a team, injuries frequently occur at this stage, making him a valuable addition to any defense. In his last season with the Broncos, he recorded 70 tackles, one sack, and three interceptions in 15 games, contributing despite the team’s struggles.

“Who knows when I could sign – tomorrow, two weeks into camp, or even before the first game. It’s unpredictable, so I’ve learned to relinquish control,” he remarked. “Right now, all I can do is stay prepared for any opportunity that arises.”

Simmons, with his NFL experience, could offer a team valuable veteran leadership in the locker room. It’s only a matter of time before a team reaches out, and Simmons gets back on the field later this season.
