The Pittsburgh Steelers might see veteran quarterback Russell Wilson back on the field soon. Coach Mike Tomlin announced that Wilson will participate fully in Wednesday’s practice.

Mark Kaboly, a Steelers correspondent for the Pat McAfee Show, shared the update on Twitter/X.
“We’ll evaluate Wilson’s performance in practice and see how he manages the session,” Tomlin stated. “He’s in a good spot health-wise, so this will be a critical week for him.”
“He’ll work with the second unit to avoid interrupting Justin’s preparation,” Tomlin added. “We’ll monitor how this all unfolds throughout the week.”
Wilson has shown improvement since recovering from his calf injury and might be ready for the Week 6 game against the Las Vegas Raiders. In Week 5, he was inactive for the primetime match against the Dallas Cowboys, serving as the emergency backup.
This season started with a quarterback competition between Wilson and Fields, but Wilson’s injury shifted the dynamics. Fields has performed well, boasting a 3-2 record with impressive stats: 92 completions on 136 attempts, 67.6% completion rate, 961 yards, five touchdowns, one interception, and a passer rating of 97.1.
If Wilson returns, Fields will likely still start. However, it remains unclear if he can secure his position for the entire season.

While Fields is playing at a high level, job security could be a concern moving forward. Meanwhile, Wilson signed a one-year deal with the Steelers after his release from the Broncos in March and was named the starter prior to his calf injury.
