Star Receiver Hospitalized: Will He Be Ready for NFL Season Opener?

Late Saturday night, it was reported that Marquise “Hollywood” Brown, star wide receiver for the Kansas City Chiefs, has been hospitalized due to a sternoclavicular joint dislocation. His availability for the start of the regular season is now uncertain.

Insider Adam Schefter from ESPN broke this news on social media.

The injury happened during the Chiefs’ first preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Unfortunately, Brown was hurt on his very first play as a Chief, sustaining the injury after making a catch.

Coach Andy Reid commented on the situation, indicating that Brown will likely miss some time as they assess his condition. “We’ll just see where it’s at, I mean, I said that they’re kind of going through it right now and we’ll know more later on,” Reid stated post-game.

This scenario bears resemblance to a past incident wherein former wide receiver Tyreek Hill faced a similar injury in 2019, which set him back four weeks. The Chiefs are likely to take a conservative approach with Brown’s recovery.

Brown joined Kansas City this offseason in what many considered one of the best moves of the summer. Although he hasn’t earned a Pro Bowl selection or an All-Pro title, he is widely recognized as a solid receiver across the league.

His previous two seasons were spent with the Arizona Cardinals after being traded from the Baltimore Ravens, where he had his best year in 2021 with 91 receptions for 1,008 yards and six touchdowns. Last year, despite some inconsistent quarterback play, he managed 51 catches for 574 yards and four touchdowns.

Known for his speed and knack for finding space, teaming up with quarterback Patrick Mahomes could elevate his game even further. With the regular season starting in a few weeks, there’s some wiggle room for Brown to recover adequately.

In the meantime, the Chiefs drafted rookie receiver Xavier Worthy, who might step in to help the team until Brown is back on his feet. Fans are hopeful this injury won’t linger, and Brown can make a swift recovery.
