Stefon Diggs is stepping into a new chapter with the Houston Texans as they gear up for the 2024 season. Just a few months after a rocky end to his time in Buffalo, where he played for four seasons, the Bills traded him to the Texans in April.
During his last year with Buffalo, whispers circulated about friction between Diggs and quarterback Josh Allen, alongside the Bills’ management. Although he started strong with over 100 receiving yards in five of the first six games, his performance faltered, and he only managed two more touchdowns in the remainder of the season.
Diggs attributes part of his decreased production to the Bills’ change in offensive coordinators, which saw Ken Dorsey replaced by Joe Brady.
“The games looked a lot different,” he told GQ. “You can blame me, I don’t mind it. But take a close look at what actually happened. I had a strong start, then — what changed? It’s important to consider the entire picture.”
Reflecting on this period, Diggs described it as the ‘worst mental space’ he has experienced in the NFL.
“Last year was tough,” he admitted. “If I’m not mentally right, it affects my game.”
While the trade may have come as a shock to some, Diggs wasn’t surprised and acknowledged a desire for change.
“Neither team really wanted to trade me,” he explained. “But sometimes changes need to happen.”
As he joins the Texans, Diggs is set to be a key player for their offense alongside second-year quarterback C.J. Stroud, building on their playoff run last year.
On the flip side, the Bills are opening up their receiving options. With Diggs gone, Allen is ready to embrace the challenge of the season without a clear No. 1 receiver.
