This week’s dose of adorable pet news includes heartening stories like a shelter dog finding a loving home and another pup’s amusing tiff with a fridge magnet. Alongside these viral animal tales, we’ve also been curating our weekly Pet of the Week segment with submissions from our readers.
If you’d like your furry companion to snag the spotlight as the next Pet of the Week, check out the details at the end of this article.
Winners: Bella and Marlee
This week’s champions are Bella and Marlee, a pair of Yorkshire terriers from New Jersey. Owner Sharon Monell captured an endearing video of them engaging with their safety gate.
In the video, Bella, the younger of the two, is seen aiding her senior companion Marlee in navigating the gate by skillfully opening it for her.
According to Monell, Bella was separated from Marlee as she was still a playful puppy, leaving Marlee feeling left out. Eager to include her older friend, Bella stepped in to lend a helping paw by opening the gate.
Finalists: Tot, Pepper, and Henry
One of our finalists this week is Tot, an Australian shepherd mix rescued by Peter Zheutlin, an author passionate about pet adoption. Zheutlin’s book “Rescued” sheds light on rescued dogs’ impact on our lives.
Next up is Pepper, a shih tzu who found a loving home with Theresa Richardson after being taken in temporarily when a friend’s police lieutenant could no longer care for him during a trip. Pepper has since become a cherished family member.
Lastly, we have Henry, a former feral cat who now revels in the affection of Leslie Honcharik, his patient and loving owner. Transformed from a shy stray to a pampered indoor pet, Henry now enjoys the regal life he deserves, basking in love and cuddles.
