Hey there! So, there’s this Arizona shelter that’s really hoping to get more animals adopted, especially with the scorching summer heat hitting hard and the euthanasia list getting longer.
Recently, a video was shared on June 11 over on Instagram by someone with the handle @sarah.and.thedogs that shows the tough conditions the animals are facing in the blazing 100-plus degree weather at the three MCACC locations. Right now, there are over 800 animals waiting for homes, including dogs of all kinds – different ages, breeds, and sizes.
According to Sarah, more dogs are expected to end up in shelters because of the upcoming fireworks and July Fourth celebrations. To prepare for this influx, the shelter is unfortunately having to add dogs to the euthanasia list sooner rather than later, which is why they’re calling out for potential adopters or foster families to step up.
“Hey, due to overcrowding, MCACC is gonna have to start putting more dogs on the euthanasia list in order to make some space,” she mentioned with a heavy heart. “It’s a really tough situation right now.”
Currently, there are 67 animals listed as “priority” on the MCACC website, meaning they’re at risk of being euthanized unless a solution is found urgently. Some of these animals require extra attention for behavioral or medical reasons, while others are simply finding it hard to cope in the shelter environment.
Every year, around 920,000 surrendered animals are euthanized. Shelters are working hard to lower these numbers by promoting adoption drives, spaying/neutering initiatives, and behavior training programs.
“I’m urging everyone to consider adopting from the humane society! I did it last December, and it has been incredibly fulfilling having a wonderful dog by my side. He’s my world! Let’s help save lives!” shared one compassionate commenter.
Another person added, “My heart goes out to these poor babies. I can’t wait to have my own land one day and rescue as many of these fur babies as I possibly can.”
